- No awards were conferred in 1961, 1962, 1963, 1966, 1968, 1970, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1995, 1997 and 2008.
- The plaque awarded by the Sahitya Akademi was designed by the Indian film-maker Satyajit Ray.
